After emotional goodbyes to mine and Andrea´s families, packed in jobs, and a quick wedding out of the way, we were on our way.
The plan, in as much as there is one, is a week in Tobago to start us off in style. After that, 2 months voluntary work in deepest Venezuela to kick the Caribbean smiles off our faces, followed by a month getting our pockets picked whilst drinking good coffee around Central America. After that, pop to Chile for a couple of days, before heading across the Pacific to New Zealand.
We have working visas for a year, so sometime before that year is up, depending on what sort of work we manage to find, we`ll aim to start back for home, hopefully (enthusiasm and wallets permitting) via a month or three around South East asia, and be home in time for tea and medals.
We`ve set up this blog for anyone who`s interested to be able to keep up to date with our travels. There may be ups and downs, tears and laughter, pizza and beer. Who knows?
There are only two things we know for sure... Andrea reacts really badly to mosquito bites, and I don`t like hot weather.
In the months to come, the words of the blind old organ grinder that rang out as we climbed the plane might come back to haunt us.
"Ice cream and insect repellent don`t mix..."
