Viña del Mar - Bathed by the waters of the Pacific Ocean this "Vinyard by the Sea" as is its name in Spanish, is Chile's main tourist attraction. The town has long stretches of white sanded beaches that are a major attraction for national and international tourists. This coastal city is known as La Ciudad Jardín or "The Garden City", Viña del Mar is a Chilean Municipality located in the Region of Valparaiso. Viña del Mar has a population of 286,931 (according to the 2002 census).

So it's Valentines day today and James managed to sneak off at some point and buy me a piece of jewellry I had eyed off at the markets, it was a complete surprise and very sweet. Then he went and bought us breakfast and a rose for me to go with it, he's a good boy! Lol. Very sweet of him. Today we got ready to leave for Vina Del Mar, packed our bags again!! with many more times to come... we caught a taxi with our bags to our next destination...

And aaahhhh what a beautiful city this is, only 10-15 mins away from Valparaiso and is the complete opposite! It reminds me of the Gold Coast! We stayed in this fabulous Bed n Breakfast just a little out of town, it was such a beautiful home and it was just us and the owners there, they really made us feel welcome and we got to know them in our time staying there too. Oh and the breakfast was fit for a king!

To get the cities in most of Chile they have these taxi looking cars called 'collectivos'. They have a main route they stick to and pick up n drop off ppl continously, exactly like the bus but much more efficient as you can only fit 4 ppl at a time, sometimes when you get in one at the shopping centre etc. they won't leave until the car is full. Anyway we caught these a lot here and saved a heap, they have buses also of course, the public transport here is fabulous, you don't need a time table or anything you just walk to the right street for the collectivos or a bus stop and you're never waiting for longer that a few minutes for the next one! We managed to get to our destinations communicating with our Spanglish too!

We just chilled out for a couple days here really, walking around and having a look. There are many stretches of beach and there's so many ppl on them! Sometimes it's a bit overcast and the water is bloody freezing! But there's always ppl sunbaking. We caught the bus down to Renaca beach for the day and relaxed there, we tried our first Capraihna (Brazillian cocktail) and man did it put some hairs on our chest! Ha ha. Then we caught the bus further to a place called Con Con to have a seafood dinner, as it's famous for it's seafood there.

We really enjoyed our stay in Vina Del Mar and ready to catch the bus to Bariloche where we will do the Spanish Language school for 2 weeks.
