Well here I go. The day has arrived and Im actually on my way back to Africa. My ability to sleep these past few days has been dramatically impaired by my nervous anticipation of this adventure. As the day of departure got closer I started to take note of the last time I will do this or that for nearly two months. The last time I will drive a car, have telephone access, and especially the last time I get to take a hot shower. Having been there before I am keenly aware of what it will be like there. There is no longer a mystery as to what the food will be like, how the heat will feel, and what the sights, smells, and sounds will impact my senses. That being said I'm dreading the sacrifices of our modern conveniences. Those are replaced with the overwhelming emotion of excitement to be seeing my family again. How have they changed in my absence? Will my son recognize me? Has my wife gained a stronger sense of independence having to care for two children in a third world country without me there to help? Well Im about to get on the plane. I'll try and post as often as I can. I should have internet access at the airport in Paris and then again at the WWF compound in Bangui. After that who knows when I'll be able to get access again. So don't be concerned if its is quite a while.
