Trinidad was great fun. Itīs a pretty small town with UNESCO protection and is apparently the best example of a "colonial" town in Cuba. Cobbled streets, brightly coloured houses, big old mansions converted into museums, that kinda thing. We stayed at a house of an elderly couple with a grandchild with no nipples.
Nice town with heaps of cigar hustlers, so, against advice from the lonely planet, we decided to buy a box off a random guy. He said he worked at a local factory, and we smelt them, saw that they were of constant colour, felt them, and to the best of our very limited cigar knowledge, they appeared genuine. So we bought a box of Montecristo cigars for US$35. Normally costs around $200 or $300, so it was a bargain and even if theyīre all made from banana leaves, we havenīt lost that much!!
Heaps to do around Trinidad, we checked out the Valle de Los Ingenios (valley of the sugar mills), the local Caribbean beaches, a discotheque in a cave with plenty of dodgy locals, went for a mammoth butt-pain-inducing bike ride. Also watched son/bolero and salsa bands, drank mojitos and daiquiris, watched cuba lose the baseball final to Japan, went to some waterfalls amongst good old gum trees, and hung out with some nice Swiss girls. In over 3 months of travelling, iīve pretty much met people from every european country except the ones I plan on visiting (this trip)! Quite ironic huh.
