So I arrived in Stockholm on the 2nd of August. It was sort of miserable weather as it was raining but none the less I was super excited to have finally arrived. Pretty much the first day consisted of the following activities
- went to pick up accomodation keys - there was a massive queue and we had to get a number. (I was number 723 and when I arrived they were only up to 500 !!)
- met my apartment mates (the pplz I will be sharing a kitchen with)
At the moment I'm living on campus in an apartment with 8 rooms
The rest of the first week pretty much consisted of administrative activities- course enrolments, faculty welcome day etc etc.
A group of us went to the Old Town (Gamla Stan)on the first Friday. Gamla Stan is the oldest part of Stockholm and all the streets and buildings there are super pretty. If you're ever in Stockholm Gamla Stan is definately a place you have to visit!! The Royal palace in Gamla has over 600 rooms!
The highlights during the second week included a visit to Grinda which is one of the archipelagos in Stockholm (archipelagos are basically islands). There are over 24000 archipelagos in Stockholm though this number can be somewhat misleading coz they pretty much count even a rock in the middle of the sea as an archipelago
Grinda is a really beautiful island which we travelled to via boat. We went bush walking in Grinda and the track kinda reminded me of a duke of ed trek minus the heavy backpack. The great thing was that we had the ocean beside us as we walked since we were on an island.
Another highlight of this week included visits to the Modern Art museum and to a few of the famous food halls in Stockholm. The modern art museum had many beautiful pieces and at the food hall we saw a heap of interesting food for sale - including reindeer meat (reindeer is a delicacy in Sweden).
