Couldn't leave Hyde Park without a tour of the Vanderbilt Mansion.  WOW....it was lovely.
Sitting high on a bluff overlooking the Hudson, and boasting 55,000 sq feet...it was huge!  Tons of Italian marble, and ceilings, tapestries, molding, etc.   It was stunning.....

Then we had to hot foot it to JFK....took "9" to the Taconia Parkway then on into the Bronx.  The Taconia Parkway was a real treat....no trucks and (although it was RAINING like crazy) beautiful with trees of every color, and the feeling that you were way out in the country......

Zeroed in on JFK and dropped the car at Budget (still raining)....so there is no shuttle here to the airport...you have to drag all your stuff to the train, then take the train for 12 minutes to the terminal, then drag your stuff to the counter to check in.....whew.....if we had any more bags it would have been a disaster!

Our plane left the gate on time (3:35pm) but then sat on the runway for an hour before taking off....:>(   due to the heavy rain only one runway was being used for landings.....there were 11 planes in front of us and 20 behind us!!!!  The joys of travel......

Got home in one piece.....safe and sound.....to our own fall colors in the Bay Area.
