This story begins with a little birthday surprise from the company. For the past three years we have been invited to join the search for an old WWII B-24 bomber that crashed into Huntington Lake, CA during a training mission in the 40's. I was invited on the search this year. We camped in a nearby campground and spent two days surveying the lake looking for it. At night we would cook Man-food on an over sized fire and drink beer and talk about man things, it was great. Even though we searched for two days with two sonars and two separate ROV's we didn't find a thing, which leads me to believe that the plane was recovered at some point and nobody knew about it. If there is in fact a 110' plane at the bottom of that lake, and I didn't find it, I'll turn in my surveyors card.
This was a great work/vacation and a good way to spend my 26th birthday even though we came up empty handed. I made "beer can chickens" for the first time. It's where you take a half full can of beer and shove it in a whole chicken, wrap it in tinfoil and then set it on a campfire grate and let it cook. The beer peculates and adds flavor to the chicken while keeping it moist and tender at the same time. What you do with the other half can of beer is up to you :-)
It was a great experience and a nice birthday surprise even though we never found anything. I'm posting a little video on here if you have a good internet connection you can watch it.
