They are right when they say nothing can prepare you for India.

My Turkish family and I (May, Gnaz, Aliza, Claire) have a one to ten scale on which we rated all things weird that happened to us in Turkey. The highest you would most likely get from anything in Canada would be a two but Turkey provided some pretty high ratings at different points. Anyways...the point of this story is that in the first 5 minutes of leaving the airport in New Delhi this scale was destroyed. Weird things in Turkey are lucky if they rate a one on my new "that's weird in India" scale.

So I made it to the Ashram where Henrietta is after a grueling 17 hour-ish trip which ended with a five hour car ride that makes any of the Turkish "cab rides of death" look once again like a charming pony ride. Lanes are merely suggestions here, entire families ride on one motorcycle and honking means you can do whatever you like.

The ashram I'm staying at is called Sri Santosh Puri Ashramand its right off of the Ganga river (holiest river in India) . It has been great so far, I have my own room, the food is amazing and a shower (its cold water but still better then a bucket). This is a really laid back place so if you don't feel like going to a session its completely fine. But so far I have really enjoyed the yoga and I'm easing into things well here.

Redefining the word hot...I have never been so uncomfortably hot in my entire life. It is inescapable and unbearable. It is so hot that you are constantly sweating regardless of what you do. Everything closes up from 12-3 because it is simply too hot to do anything and everyone walks so slowly because if you don't you will break even more of a sweat...Yesterday we went into Rishiktash (a nearby town) to do some shopping. I bought two pairs of pants and a shirt for under 10 dollars Canadian because all of the clothes I have here are too thick. Also...this is probably tmi (tooooo much information) but I'm sharing anyways. I have about 6-7 liters of water yesterday and didn't pee once...where is that going!!!!

Anyways...I need to stop writing because its getting too hot again. We most likely are going to go swim in the Ganga. It's a seriously infected snake area (they found a king cobra last week just across the bank) but at this point it is worth the risk...never thought I would say that.

Rhetta and I are most likely staying here until Saturday and the we are probably head to Chandigarh (Corbs famous city in India) I'm very excited about it!!! and then we are headed towards the Himalayas for some hiking and hopefully some water rafting.

until next time...
