I caught a bus from London to Exeter which was the worst four hours on a bus so far... so hot! The weather in England at the moment is like an aussie summer. I was picked up by my relos for a one week holiday in the south, we drove to a place called Black Torrington in Devon where we have been staying in a beautiful converted countryside barn in complete serenity. We visited a little seaside village called Clovelly, explored the pebbled beach and tried out the Cornish pasties and traditional teas before heading to a beach in Innstow where I passed out from exhaustion for a few hours and got burnt!!! We've even had outdoor BBQ's for dinner and made use of the pool at the cottage, it's been that hot.
We drove down to Cornwall and spent the day at several beaches. One of which had lucious green rolling hills with grazing horses on each side. Absolutely amazing contrast! Took my half cousin kyaking around the cliffs, before having a meal at a traditional english pub. The rest of the week was spent walking, exploring and relaxing.
I caught a bus from a place called Oakhampton to Newquay which at first reminded me of Byron Bay but I was proven very wrong!
After wanting a peaceful few days to recover in a little seaside town I discovered that Newquay is far from that. I went to bed at 8pm exhausted, aching, sick & coughing and lay awake I think all night as my room was surrounded by a bar, a nightclub, a live band and a beer garden not to mention it doesn't get dark until 10pm so it was still light. I had a very restless sleep as people were coming in and out and fireworks were exploding outside.
I woke up one morning and thought I'd have a calm day out at the zoo. So I caught the bus to the zoo when I realised I had left my wallet on the seat, in absolute hysterics I tried running after the bus but it was too fast. My wallet had everything in it, money, eftpos, visa, telecard, licences, hostel room card and I was physically hyperventilating, and rundown emotionally from this cold and no sleep. Finally a taxi came and I jumped in, we followed the road until we came to a roundabout and I thought shit... as I didn't have a clue which way it was going or what the bus number was so we had to go back to the town bus station, find out the route and then we did a cross country race to find the bus. We eventually cut it off and caught up with it, where we did a mid road halt and held up traffic while the bus driver handed over my wallet (thank god). I eventually made it to the zoo and wandered around trying to calm down.
I decided to walk back into town which is another story all together and literally just as I was thinking could this day get any worse.... not one but three seagulls shat on me! It is time to leave grey England for France...
