We woke at 6am and drove two hours through England, Wales and the isle of Anglesey to the port of Holyhead then caught a ferry across the Irish Sea to Dublin, Ireland. The wind was so incredibly strong on the water that when we opened the door to go outside we were literally blown to the railing in front of us (about 20ft away), and it took a real effort to turn around and face back the way we had come. We basically had to run to stand still, otherwise the wind would have blown us over the edge...it was incredible, such a rush!
A bus took us into the city centre where we got on one of those hop on/hop off tourist buses, just as we did it started to rain, so there was my cousin, and her friend sitting in the open top of the double decker bus in the pouring rain with me standing between them in the aisle, umbrella in one hand, camera in the other, madly taking photos as this insane bus driver does about 100km/hr through the streets of Dublin. It was crazy! The weather cleared almost immediately after the tour finished and the rest of the day was spent wandering the streets and exploring before heading into an Irish pub for a Guiness (apparently it tastes different in ireland, but i couldn't tell).
On the ferry on the way back we met this group of men who had just been on their annual fishing trip, and passed the time by talking with them. The highlight was when this old fart started to sing an Irish song from the days of the potato famine in this deep 'Harold Bishop' voice and it was incredibly moving. Everyone listening was enthralled.
