Potosi to Sucre - Day 5 of Rally

Having drunk some of the (teabag variety) coca tea, Oggy was surprisingly chirpy for the 6.30am start and also disd the first gravel rally stage - a short and tight gravel stage shortly out of Potosi, with some significant dips and jumps, and surface changes from gravel to loose sand - all good experiences!

Transport stage continued, but as noted yesterday was relatively straight - not as twisty climbing this part of the Andes as we would have anticipated.

Rob did the second stage of the day - a very interesting and challenging stage thgat went from assorted gravel surfaces abd then joined the bitumen highway for a short distance before spearing off into gravel again - and it did this several times in the stage! Rob managed to pass many competitors, and had a real blast - smiles all around.

A short day overall, got to Sucre about lunchtime, and had a great reception at the city square - ably assisted yet again by dozens of Army personnel.Young entrepreneurss were around with buckets and water to wash the cars, so we assisted the development of free market activities in Bolivia! Found a great place for lunch, and dined upstairs at a restaurant overlooking the square - meals far too big to eat, full of assorted meats etc, all for about $US 2.50!

Plenty of action in the square as we dined - a big rally for a bike race the next day, complete with grid girls or whatever they call them for pushbike races, and then a huge type of party with fireworks and dancing in and around the square - who knows what for, but I think the Bolivians dont need much excuse for music and laughter. After dinner found agreat bar frequented by tourists and backpackers - "Bibliocafe" - but no, Oggy isn't overdosing on coca tea, apparently Biblio is some well liked muso in Bolivia and has played here often - signed photos of Mr Biblio on the walls.
