Day 3

305 miles travelled

We left DC early today and made our way towards Wythville, Virginia. First was a stop at Walmart, where we all stocked up on food and drink for the evening. We were then taken to a secret location for lunch where we had a picnic by the lake and mountains; divine.

Upon arriving in Virginia, we were all taken to our little log cabins where we'd be staying the night. The first sign we saw? "Beware of the bears. Don't leave trash out at night". Naturally, us girls were slightly scared! We then saw another sign which read "Do not prop door open due to snakes". Fantastic. And then as we were chilling outside, a massive branch came flying out of nowhere and landed a few feet away from us. I felt like I was in the Blair Witch Project.

So we all set up the tables and bonfire and drank away the night, as well as having pizza delivered to the middle of the forest. I have to say, as terrified as we all were about an animal
getting us whenever we walked to the toilet (I swear a snake nipped my rght ankle at one point), it was actually quite a cute little setting. The cabins were quaint and the somewhat eerie silence was actually a nice change from the busyness I've been used to the past few weeks. We also met a few of the other people from a different trek who are doing a similar route to us. They're camping though, so have to deal with the snakes and bugs on a regular basis, ha.

So this post is a short and sweet one due to the fact most of today was spent just driving and drinking (not at the same time, obviously). I will end with the tale about what happened when I had a shower. I was greeted by a little frog who was jumping around the place as I was undressing. Perv. Then after I had my shower and was drying off, I felt something on my knee and looked down to see a spider making his way up my leg. Double perv.

Eww! Frogs, spiders, snakes, bears. But the place does belie the prevalent wildlife. It looks idyllic!

And now to the next blog. Elvis! Elvis?
