We finally in Melbourne!!! After arriving really late at the airport Jenni was there to pick us up!! Thanks Jenni!! She drove us to her house and we finally met her lovely staffi (who plays basketball and football) Porsche!! what an awesome doggie!! Much to Tashies dissapointment - the doggie loves debs best! ;) all of a sudden debs is doggies favorite!!

We enjoyed a dinner with Jenni and her boyfriend Darren - where we then drank about 7 bottles of wine and half a bottle of scotch...we only remember this because of the empty bottles in the morning...oh wait, we only got up in the afternoon!! and the photos we dont remember taking! felt rough as hell and spent all day sleeping(tash on the floor - where puppies belong! and debs on the single bed!)

We then had to venture out on a train to Montmorency where we were spending the next two nights with a couchsurfer Cath...we had an awesome meal al fresco style and we met her nephew Andrew (who we are now going to the PINK concert with) and her little jack russell Phoebe!

Spent the days wandering around Melbourne city - We packed our bags with free leaflets and books from the information centre cos we could! The festival was on for a few days and was entirely free. There were lots of acts on along the river including circus acts and food stalls and music playing on the main stage in the middle of the Square. THEN it rained and we got SOAKED - welcome to Melbourne ! We found a bridge to shelter under but it proved to be no shelter at all! We had to use the local arts toilets to dry our tshirts and hair. The next day where we were able to get our faces painted! Debs had a wombat and I had an eagle. We were also given the opportunity to paint aboriginal drawings with ochre - but just then it rained again! We gave up and ended up back at Jennys house again for the weekend!

We wandered around Victoria Market where Tash was amazed at buying a whole bag of grapes for $1!!loads of cheap fruit and veg and lots of cool aussie tshirts! Yay! We even tried some chilli wine as a taster! cool as! It was Wicked Sunday at the Festival so lots of chocolate and cakes on offer. We so have to move here!

On Monday Jenni drove us into town to her work where we left her (for now) and we headed to Jo's work - finally get to meet up again!! last time was in Italy...wherever she goes...we seem to follow! ;) We had booked ourselves on a free orientation walk around the city at 10am with a city volunteer! She told us about the history of the city and walked us down the river which we hadn't yet seen properly. We learned about the turning basin on the river and took us through the immigration museum. Also government buildings and old buildings and little hidden walkways were very interesting too. It was good to see the city and its surrounds from a different perspective.

That evening we had drinks with Jo at a wine bar opposite her work. Jason picked us up and took us to Nandos for dinner then onto their house - lovely double bed again with cool windows and of course their 2 lovely cats Charlie and Romeo! Bring on the allergies!

TASHIES 31ST BIRTHDAY - thank you to all those that sent me texts and emails - always appreciated. Spent the day at St Kilda's beach, south of the city on the East side of the Bay. Spent time sitting on a small jetty were we spotted a very small red jellyfish below us. Strolled along the beach with our feet in the water collecting shells and stones then ended up at the rock pools where Debs took great pleasure from watching the clams "weeing" themselves! Debs was then the first to spot starfish (sea stars officially, as they are not actually fish). Then we saw we were surrounded by them - all colours, some brown, some white, some bright yellow with purple tips - just awesome. Finished by walking up the main pier as the sun was setting over the breakwater. Fantastic day! Caught up with Jo to catch tram home and ate WokInABox for dinner hmmm thin rice noodles veggies and sweet chilli sauce yum! Oh and of course a glass or two of wine - Jo and Jason bought me the up to date version of lonely planets guide to New Zealand ! Treasured muchly!

Checked out Brunswick Street which everyone has raved about but have to say not impressed at all - but were later told its better in the evening! Arranged to meet another couch surfer Kelly in her home town of Northcote and watched some seriously funny tv - Chasers War on Everything!

We then had an email from our friend Dhugal in Perth - he lived in Melbourne for a while so he sent us on a journey with step by step instructions. We followed his email instructions giving us no road names and no idea where it was leading us but by page 2 it had pointed out some amazing architects houses and it had taken me past a skateboarding shop so naturally I bought a full basic set up for $50! And this email ended with ... "and ahead you will find a seat waiting for you - when you get to this point call me and I will give you further instructions." Well the seat happened to be in a lovely town called Ivanhoe - and this seat overlooked Darebin Park with a full view of Melbourne 's city skyline - one of the best views I have ever seen and with a small waterfall just beneath us! We called him and he explained how to get into the park and what we must find and explore for the rest of the day. We followed many Spiritual Walking Trails which took us past a creek and many little lakes full of wildlife and of course lots of doggies on their walkies! What an awesome day that turned out to be! Met up with Kelly again after work and Debs made dinner. We then hit the town as girls just want to have fun hey! We went to a lovely vegetarian café for hot choc and chai tea and then onto the Q&A club night at A Bar Called Barry - Kelly danced till 12.30am - me being 31 now couldn't keep up with all the youngsters around me! It had the most interesting mix of people ive ever seen under one roof - forget Camden - this place was diverse. It played everything from Steps to Evanescence and the people matched the music!

Took a look at the IMAX cinema which houses the world's largest screen but decided to give it a miss at $17 each! Dinner was fish and chips takeaway back with Jo - Debs ate shark!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice! Flake and chips = gummy shark!! THANK MELBOURNE MUSEUM FOR POINTING THAT ONE OUT!!!

Spent about 3 hours in the Melbourne Museum - we didn't get to see all of it! Spiders galore in that place - my head is still itching just thinking about it. Tonight was the night that we had organized a CS birthday bash for my 31st which was organized for the Standard Hotel in Fitzroy - highly recommended! 14 people turned up including a friend of Dhugals' whom he described as having "long black hair and a goatee" when we finally caught up with Don we decided he did look like Edward Norton!

WOW thats only our first 2 weeks in Melbourne!! we love it here...such a great city!!
