Huacachina is an oasis in the middle of a giant mass of sand which stretches for kilometres and kilometres through Peru's north.. With only one day to enjoy the dunes the hostel manager suggested we do the pisco tour (otherwise known as the 'shit face tour') in the morning, have a big lunch and go sand boarding in the afternoon..

Good idea in theory..

The Pisco tour was great fun! We sampled pisco at various stages of its fermenting life (Pisco port is good! Everything else.. not so good) before we were shown how to mix a pisco sour.. And it went all down hill from there.. A local (who was probably already pissed on pisco - he TOLD us he was a mute!?) came and asked for Solomans assistants with some man work.. After all the heavy lifting he came back and poured many MANY shots of Pisco saying it was his birthday and we must join him.. Long story short.. We ended up dancing the salsa in the pisco shed and drinking whiskey with him over lunch..

Sand boarding when intoxicated is NOT a good idea!! It fills you with far to much confidence to the point where you could.. Die.. But it was a lot of fun!! Soloman decided he was superman and hung on the side of the buggy while it was racing over the dunes at god knows what speed.. And I got so much speed coming down a dune on my board that I ended up with a bruised chin and another bloody nose!

On another note.. Huacachina has THE BEST chocolate I have EVER tasted!
