It doesn't matter that you can see there is 50 plus people that made it down perfectly fine. It's that one person who fell off and managed to scrape all the skin of the left side of his calf. It's the one story that was told about the guy who crashed into his friend and lost all the skin on the top of his hand while his friend gained a couple of cracked ribs. It's stories like these that make it seem like one of those, 'What the f... am I doing? This is crazy!' moments.

The 45 min hike up Cerro Negro is enough time to really let those knots in your belly tighten. The view, once you reach the top, of the 40 degree slope your about to descend down makes those stories of possible pending injuries seem so much more plausible! Then, you are set up at the top ready to go, running through all the safety precautions in your head. And... GO!

Volcano boarding is one of the funnest things we have done for a while!!!!

96km is the record to beat! Of course non of us got there, but it was sooooo much fun trying!! The heat increases on your rear end as you lean further back to pick up more speed. Hundreds of little rocks fly into your face with the wind catching your hair as you race to the bottom. All of this makes any form of worry melt away and when you reach the bottom completely in tack, you really just want to do it again!!

We followed up volcano boarding with a full moon hike up Telica Volcano. Thankfully it was no where near as cold as the Santa Maria hike in Xela! Just before sunrise we head to the crater to check out some lava! 9 times out of 10 you can see the lava pool 120m below very clearly.. It was our lucky day and we got the 1 time out of 10 for the crater to be smoking like a chimney with no visibility! It was still a beautiful sunrise with the full moon on one side of the sky and a bright sun rising over the hills on the other!
