How are you this morning?
So, yesterday as I was checking my emails before i left school, the principal came and found me and took me to his office where he fed me a vitamin drink and talked to me for a while. Except he can't pronounce anything in english, so it was like a guessing game! I kept nodding in the hope he would talk for just that little bit longer so that I could pick out a few more words and work out what he was saying. I like men here - they remind me of my father - very full of wisdom, yet communicate with few words. They just nod and look away thinking when I talk.
He turned to me and said 'Dinner
For those that don't know - Emma is the girl I came to Korea with and she works in a school about 10mins away in the car. And Ed is a guy from Portland who teaches at a school in town. Anyways, my school has a sister school in the US. And it so happens that Ed is actually from that sister school (which is in Portland)!! Does that make sense?
Anyways, I was invited back to the principals office for 'kopi' this morning. Even talking to the principal is a HUGE deal here. So I have to keep reminding myself not to be cheeky or anything like I usually am to my seniors (Sinead and David!!!). Anyhoo, i arrived this morning for my kopi (kopi is 'coffee' however has so much sugar in it i'm not sure if there is any coffee in it.) And i walked in and he gave me a yoghurt and vitamin drink. And then kopi. (Vitamin drinks are HUGE here. Everyone drinks them). He keeps saying 'You have plenty of time! Please stay longer!' I just keep thinking 'But we aren't talking?!?!'. Oh well. I expect he likes my company?! And also it is polite to invite me there. So, now he says I must have Kopi with him every morning!!! Oh lord!!! There is only so much I can say to him every morning before he doesnt understand me at all. I will have to prepare more for my morning meetings with him than I will for each class i teach!!
My english is also awful!!! It is getting worse by the day
'You can say "I wanna" or "You wanna"? But you can't say "She wanna" or "He wanna"? Is that correct?'
I was like 'Hold up! What on earth are you possibly talking about?!?!' I simply said:
'If you are big, black and american girlfriend, you can say whatever the hell you like. However, correct english grammer doesn't use "wanna". So, there are no rules!!!!'
Boy oh boy.
Hahaha - and the other day someone asked emma 'What is the difference between "Inside-Out" "Back-to-front" and "Upside-Down"?' It really messes with your head here!!!!!
Anyways, I better go. Got a class. xxxx
