germnay has officially won the award for most confusing metro system yet encountered. i spent a grand total of 1 hour, 20 minutes in the underground labyrinth as i tried to navigate from the bus station to my hostel. there are about 9 u-bahn metro lines, some more S lines, a few dozen M lines, a tram line attached to the metro system, some buses... and through all of this, the only line that i really needed was closed for renovations...

there is a reason lola ran all over the city. if she'd tried to take the metro she would have gotten lost.

man i was grumpy when i got to the hostel. who, in the face of all those rumours about german organisational prowess, had 'misplaced' my booking. this, despite the fact that they got me to confirm it not once, but twice, the last time being the day before i arrived, a confirmation which they replied to to confirm that they recieved it and that everything was fine... somewhere, something went horribly wrong. but they found me a bed in the end, so that was ok... sort of.

anyway. apart from that, berlin is AMAZING. i love it here! the city is compleltely insane, everywhere you go there is some crazy bit of history or someone doing something compleltely mental on the street, it is so cool. my favourite bit is watching the germans line up at the road crossings, even when the road is blocked off and there are no cars - so obiedient! they have also counted and numbered all of the trees in the city centre.

went on a hilarious walking tour today - was walking for 9 hours! saw such cultral, historical and architectural marvels as the brandenburg gate, checkpoint charlie, the carpark under which is hitler's bunker, and the hotel balcony that michael jackson dangled his baby off.

checkpoint charlie was my absloute favourite, they have done it up so that is a complelte photo op, with the crowning glory being the addition of two male strippers moonlighting as american soldiers at the checkpoint. for a fee, you can have your photo taken with them. i am not kidding either, they really are strippers, their van was parked around the corner.

also went to a museum, whose name i have forgotten, but i went to see the bust of nefertiti, and that is indeed what i saw. it was pretty amazing up close, and cool to see after seeing so many photos. i knew that it was in berlin somewhere, but it was only by sheer chance that i found the right museum - they have a whole island, called museum island, which is just covered in... museums! very practical, the germans.

anyway, i am leaving berlin tomorrow, off to amsterdam. don't really want to leave though, berlin is awesome, i'm so coming back :)
