headed down to mostar for the day to see the famous bridge. the original bridge was built in the 1500s, but got blown up during the war, which was a bit sad, because it was beautiful. but the city has rebuilt it completely, all by hand (except for the aid of a few cranes!). the bridge was famous because the young men in the city used to jump off it to impress the girls and their mates. now they are jumping off it to impress the tourists - this poor guy must have been jumping off and climbing that bridge every half hour all day, it was nuts. the place was crawling with tourists, because it is close to the border of croatia, alot of people come on day trips, which meant there were more tourists than sarajevo and everything was twice the price :S

the place i was staying was hilarious - i arrived and this tiny old woman opened the door for me, and showed me my bed, which was actually the couch in her front room... she has turned her apartment into a backpackers hostel, and is just loving it. so she had about 20 backpackers sleeping on various foldout beds and couches around her house, and she would feed us cake at every opportunity, it was great, and she was loving having all these people to look after :)

in the town there was also a tower called tara, which was cool. bosnia herzegovina also has a river and a mountain named after me, as i have been informed numerous times. i met this woman working in the museum nin the tower, who despite speaking bosnian, english, passable german and french, and having a degree in mechanical engineering, could not get a job anywhere else but the museum, where she had been working for the last 6 years. the country still has no infrastructure or jobs after the war, its sad.
