i promise i didnt plan it this way, but i managed to arrive in belgrade just in time for the final few nights of the belgrade beer festival. man its good fun! basically the whole city just goes out to the fortress that is on the hill above the town and gets drunk on cheap beer. there is music and dancing and random stuff for sale, and it is totally cool

belgrade is very different to what i expected. there is hardly any evidence of war at all. most of the buildings have been rebuilt and it appears just like a normal city really. but i like it, because there are no tourists at all. there are only 3 other people in the hostel i am in. everyone on the street keeps asking me stuff in serbian because they dont expect tourists, and people get so excited when they find out i am from australia. they will show you all over the city just because they are pleased to have tourists and see the country moving on
