Show trip route
i went out to some of the islands around athens yesterday, on this crazy cruise. it was all very 80s holiday camp, complete with 'cultural show' whilst we sailed. but it was good - it meant i could see 3 of the islands. my favourite was called hydra - its this beautiful island with no cars on it at all, so all the transport is by donkeys, which as you can imagine appealled to me greatly. there were about 100 donkeys all just hanging around at the main port, waiting to take you around the island. they were so cute, all covered in tassles and with these funny little wooden saddles, it was great. the island was good too ;) there weren't really any beaches because all around was surrounded by cliffs, so to swim you had to climb down these stairs cut into the cliffs, and there were these little platforms so you could get in and out of the water
today i headed up to see the parthenon, which is AMAZING. actually, the hostel i am staying at has a great view of it off the rooftop bar, so i spent last night just staring at it :) so i went up and wandered around today. unfortunately the whole thing is covered in scaffolding, but you can still see how amazing it would have looked.
after the parthenon i had a serious shopping accident in the flea market just down from the acropolis, which now means i have a couple of extra pairs of shoes to drag with me around europe. but its ok, they're brilliant :)
