Only one day in and I decided 10.5 hours is much too long to be driving in one stretch, especially if the scenery is flat and boring like southern Illinois. Sorry all you Southern Illinois lovers out there, but it IS kinda boring.

I guess I shouldn't judge so harshly; it does have a certain quiet charm about it. The never ending farm fields in various stages of harvesting, the lone red barn on the top of a small hill, the occasional outcropping of green trees or a small stream. Ok, quiet charm it is. Most of the crops I recognized, but there was one with yellow and green leaves on the top that waved as I went by. Not the goodbye kinda wave, but the stadium wave. It was cheering me on - Go, TRay!!

Another realization I discovered is I am a terrible driver. I have spent the last 10 years driving no more than 15 miles a day; I haven't had to drive long, fast, straight distances very often. Thank goodness for the little crevices on the side of the roads that tell you "get the hell back in the lane, woman."

Plus, depending on the song, I am totally jamming out - head bobbing, fingers tapping, foot stomping... I am having good times, while looking completely ridiculous to all those around me. Must work on my driving.

Tomorrow is camping lessons from Mommala. Friday is getting the car prepped for the long trip. And Saturday I am on my way again.
