On the Train to Terontl – just left Perugia. Lovely country side. A guy walking through the train playing the button accordion. Caravans throughout the countryside – looks like a 'community' because it looks like the caravans re there permanently, with vines planted as fences. Lots of yellow sunflowers, sugarcane, fruit trees (not sure what). I love the old cottages. The trains are always full of happy chatter and this one is no different.
We got off at Terontl and there was a train on the other platform. Joel had a quick look on the list of departures and it looked like the train we needed so we got in. It started moving before we could ask anyone where it was going but luckily it was going to our next station which
was Chuisi. We changed trains again and onto Naples. Once again, changed trains and eventually arrived in Pompei.
The lady at the motel recommended a lovely little restaurant so we had a nice meal and a fairly early night ready for a lot of walking in Pompei the next day.
Naples was the first city where we saw a lot of neighborhood with a lot of very poor living standards. Extremely degraded building's and very smelly (from the garbage). Thousands of apartments in very small areas (I.e ghetto's). None of the other cities we have been too had such obvious poverty. Maybe they also had poverty but it was hidden? I'm not sure, but Naples certainly 'appears' to have more than it's fair share of poverty.
Funny Story
At the restaurant we ordered our meal quite proudly in Italian and afterwards we realized the guy was just asking us what we wanted to drink...well, it was funny at the time..it was a lady who took the food orders.
