This morning after breakfast we walked down the hill to the lake. There is a small beach with a canoe on its side which Til insisted on talking out. I went with her as Bryn refused absolutely and Bethan has a cold. We paddled out a short way and got a rather good view up the lake. It looks like a really fun place to explore by water, especially in the summer.
After looking around town (this didn't take us very long) we had lunch and Bethan had her third cheese burger in a row. Refuelled we visited the local Indian Museum which was interesting but probably not worth a detour.
It was meant to be a short walk up the nearby Mount Kearsage which was supposed to have a good view from the top but the quick way up turned out to be more of a climb than a walk. I loved clambering up over the rocks but Bethan with her cold and Til with her recently injured foot were not amused. They were both terrified for Bryn as he has a habit of tripping over on flat ground. We got to the top without incident however and the views were spectacular. Be & T started down again pretty promptly but Bryn and I climbed the fire tower. Apparently you are supposed to be able to see all the way to Canada from there. We could certainly see lots of mountain ranges, though if they were American or Canadian I could not tell.
Bryn cooked dinner (stew and it was delicious) and I spent the rest of the day finishing off Deerskin, a Robin McKinley book that I really enjoyed. It was so nice to get absorbed into a book again. I finished over 300 pages of it in less than two days. It felt very satisfying to finally close the back cover with a sigh and sit back in my chair.
