Flag of United States  , New York
Sunday, September 12, 2010

It was rainy today so no hiking as planned. Instead we went south to the Catskill mountains and to Hobart, the Hay-on-Wye of New York State (and possibly of the USA). It has a few bookshops in a small area which we spent most of the day exploring. An antiquarian bookshop had some really beautiful old books, one of which was about Cambridge colleges. We looked though to find Jesus College and I pointed out where I had lived in my second year.

Across the road was Hobart International Bookport, run by an ex-ambassador who also used to be a pilot and spoke Italian, French, German, Spanish and Dutch. She specialised in childrens books and had a very comprehensive section on flight.

Our hands down favorite was the Bibliobarn, a large barn packed with books. The couple who ran it live among the books on the second floor. It was a beautiful place and we had some trouble leaving.

Tomorrow is my last day here, Tuesday I catch a train to Boston. I will be very sorry to leave.
