Where I stayed
Although we arrived to San Cristobal in the evening, we could see in a minute we are going to love this town. It is cleaner than Ljubljana, lively and incredibly cold. There was a lot going on, many people on the streets, vendors selling crafts, hippies doing their fire dance and turists enjoying the great atmosphere.
We decided to visit the indigenous villages around San Cristobal with a tour organized by Mercedez. No, she is not a porn-star, just an old lady with silver teeth and a colorful umbrella. We learned so much about the way Maya people live! The villages seem to live between two different time zones - the ancient past and today's modern world. On one hand they have electricity, water and even cell phones, but on the other hand, they still wear their traditional clothes, perform the traditional rituals and believe that taking pictures of them will steal their souls :-)
As San Cristobal lies in the highland the temperature was accordingl low - maybe 10 C at night! We were freezing as nobody (even the fancy restaurants) has heating! After a few days, we decided we need some sun and ... the sea! Off we go to Puerto Escondido ;-)
