Another week gone and its time to pack up and say goodbye to our friends next door and to yet another beautiful and interesting part of England! We are not going too far today and that means we can make it a leisurely journey. So our first stop is just down the road at Hereford, where our main aim is to visit the famous cathedral. There is so much to see at here, that we have to select what appeals most to each of us – the cathedral interior, its architecture, stained glass, carvings and embroidery for Jill and Gordon; and the historic library with its ancient Mappa Mundi (the map of known world as it seemed in the Middle Ages), an original Magna Carta and its collection of ancient manuscripts, still kept chained to the shelves that Queen Elizabeth the First provided for them....  Unfortunately, we don't have time to explore the city  - it looks really interesting!  We head further south, and looking for a nice setting for another picnic lunch, we stumble upon a tiny village, Kilpeck, with a fascinating old church...  It was built nearly 1000 years ago and has a wealth of wonderful, extraordinarily well preserved, stone carvings – the entry doorway, inside the church and the corbels all around the exterior of the church.  What a find!  We arrive at our destination ,  a friendly B&B in Penpergwm,  in a beautifully scenic valley just inside Wales, in plenty of time to wander the extensive gardens, which are listed among the top gardens to visit in Wales.  The B&B owner apologises that they are not looking at their best, and its clear that perhaps the extensive grounds are getting a little out of hand, but you can see that these gardens were once fabulous and the design and hard landscaping is still impressive.  .  In fact we notice a distinct similarity between some of the brick towers in this garden and the one we went to only yesterday.  When we mention this co-incidence to our hostess, it turns out the owners of those gardens are great friends and helped design and build the structures here.  We are all particularly taken with the extensive cherry orchard that is just laden with delicious fruit!  Its another beautiful day, so Jill and Tina take advantage of the large swimming pool for a refreshing dip, before we all shower and dress for dinner at a recommended local pub.
