Robyn leaves to go back to NZ today, so its an early wake up call for all of us – for Jill and Gordon to say goodbye at the cottage; and Tina & Chris to drive Robyn the short (ish) distance to Nottingham to take the bus (we leave extra early because of the possibility of rush hour holdups and need every minute!). Our day after that is spent driving some more of the little back roads in the peaks – admiring the views from the tops, enjoying the meandering valleys and finding wonderful, cute villages and cottages along the way.  We start by zig-zagging our way up the Dove River valley, stopping for lunch at the very cute village of Ilam, with its wonderful old stately home – now what must be one of the most impressive Youth Hostels out there!  Further on up the Dove, we pass through the lovely Mildale, then a stop in the picture perfect village of Hartington (it even has a duck-pond in the middle of the village!), after which we take what both the map and the GPS navigation insist is a road, but looks exactly like a farm track – including stops every 100 meters or so to open and close the paddock gates....  But there are some spectacular views on this route and it leads us (eventually!) to Monyash, where we stop for some welcome icecream (and in the heat of today, the people out hiking these hills appreciate it more than us – there is a queue in the little shop in this tiny village in the middle of nowhere!!).  Finally we make it to the equally lovely, but far more easily accessed and therefore more touristed towns of Ashford-in-the-Water (which gets its name from the flooding that used to occur on a regular basis) and Bakewell.  A great day of exploring!
