It is now the seventh day of Christmas. I don't actually know where this people start this countdown but it is nice to start early the celebrations. The whole time of being here has offered us plenty of Christmas hits from the car radio. On the previous US trip we had couple of particular songs that were close to our hearts and got better attention when played in the radio than other songs coming out. It seems that this trip has found one its tunes, A Little Drummer Boy. Moreover, the songs played here in radio are very unique stuff that almost makes you hate music. Although there is only few days of trip behind us we can say that we don’t anymore recognize what is good music. Hawaiian style cover songs have bypassed the original versions of every possible song!
Alright, there were two things today that delighted us a lot, snorkeling and smoking BBQ van. We started our day by breakfasting the leftover sweet potato curry soup from the yesterday’s veggie party. Then we headed to the tide pools around ten miles north from our meditative accommodation. It was great to do proper snorkeling first time in our lives. The pools weren’t deep so it was good practice spot for us. We managed to catch plenty of underwater action during one hour in water. Now we can’t wait to get to the other side of the island where supposed to be the best snorkeling spots in Hawaii.
So the randomly spotted lunch van was another highlight of the day. Maija took BBQ chicken sandwich and I went for the BBQ pork sandwich. I didn’t taste Maija’s but I can say that my sandwich was mind blowing. Just pork and BBQ sauce in between the buns and it seems that good sandwich doesn’t need anything else.
Rest of the day we were relaxing and standing on the fresh volcanic ground from the January’s lava flow that took down three houses at that time. Later we end up having dinner in Pahoa where we also met our new 71-year-old hippie friend Fathal whom we met yesterday in the birthday party.
