We wanted to be sure and see the Statue of Liberty as we sailed into the Bayonne, New Jersey Harbor on Sunday morning.  It was gray and chilly.  We quickly got dressed and headed to the back deck of the ship to glide under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.  This is the first bridge that spans the New York-New Jersey Harbor.  We sailed close to Liberty Island and could see the Statue of Liberty in the distance.  We took our suitcases and were one of the first passengers to leave the ship.  We needed to catch our flight from JFK airport to Salt Lake City.  Everything was going smoothly until we discovered no one else was headed to JFK.  A cab fare was close to $100 or we could take a shuttle and pay $28 each.  Sometimes it is cheaper in the long run to spend the money... We waited for 45 minutes and finally the shuttle headed towards Manhattan to drop off some passengers that needed to catch the subway home or who were extending their stay in New York. We asked to be dropped off at the airport first, but the driver assured us Manhattan was on the way and it wouldn't take much time to drop everyone off.

After a very scenic round about route through Manhattan, many roads were blocked due to a charity bike race, we arrived at JFK 15 minutes before our departure!  We had been driving around for 2 hours!  We tried to check in for the flight but it had already boarded and the door was closed to the plane.  We had missed it by several minutes!!! So frustrating.

We sat down to wait for the next flight which would be in 3 1/2 hours.  We checked our email, made some calls, had some lunch and watched the next flight board and fly away.  It was oversold and had no room for us.  We went back to our computers and waited for the next flight. Finally, at 7pm we boarded the last flight of the day and headed home.  The flight touched down in Salt Lake City and we arrived home just before midnight.  What a long day!  So glad to be home.
