DAY 11
We arrived after a 5 hour bus trip (getting harder to manage since we are accumulating a fair bit of shit!). We then had to line up at reception for 45 minutes to check-in aagghhhh! But the room is great and we are close to heaps of restaurants and bars. Spent the late afternoon walking around and then sitting on the beach with a few drinks and watching the sunset - life is so, so hard!
DAY 12
Spent the day lying on the beach being waitered on by one of the many workers down there trying to make a buck. We had a guy called "Octopus" bringing us drinks in buckets of ice all day. When I had had enough of beer out came the Pina Coladas and Metropolitans (I don't think I needed them by that stage but heck I'm on holidays!)
We had already booked a reservation on a boat cruise around the bay at 6.30pm so up stairs we went to try and beautify ourselves. The boat cruise was great (but no food like they promised!!). All you could drink pin coladas, beer and tequila - so here began our night!! There was a cabaret show (only 2 people) and they sang all night - mainly in Spanish. We ended up in a random competition that we thought would be great fun until we learnt it was to be a "lap dancing" comp. What could we do? The only respectable thing you can do when you are up for a challenge - down a few tequila slammers and make a complete fool out of yourself!!!!??? Well us Aussies won (can't really remember what the prize was - maybe a cook book?) and we quite glad that we don't have to see anyone off that boat again. We made friends with a Mexican couple and their sisters and went to their place and sang Australian songs and danced and drank some more. They seemed to be really nice people - a bit hard to judge when they couldn't speak English and we can't speak Spanish, but we had a good time.
DAY 13
I thought Nath was dead there for a while - he didn't rise till 11.00am. Feeling pretty damn seedy. We went for a breakfast/ early lunch and ate steak and chips (hoping it would suck up the alcohol). We then went up to the cross on the hill (Ecumencial Chapel of Peace). There is a very sad story to go with it. A rich family owned most of the land and when their 2 sons died in a plane crash returning to Acapulco they built the chapel in memory (or somewhat like that). It is a stunning place with panoramic views of all of the Acapulco Bay. It is situated in a very affluent residential area, where all the rich and famous live. The houses are amazing - it is hard to believe people can be that rich.
We went to La Quebrada to watch the cliff divers. I had to cover my eyes watching them - it was crazy. Even just climbing up the cliffs was scary enough but diving into the water from that high up when it was pretty rough and windy was amazing - it just wouldn't happen in Aus. It was a really good experience even though it turned my stomach. I don't know whether they are really brave or just stupid!
