As luck, and my budget would have it, I could only go to one place and didn't get the scenic swim. I did get to swim in their little fish bowl with some Japanese businessmen, and we were treated to a light show. And the street with all the spas was scenic enough for me. It looked like a street inside Disneyworld.
So Karlovy Vary is a small spa town in Western Czech named after its most prized accomplishment, Carlsbad beer. In a country where they take their beer seriously (and Czech beer is seriously good), this is a town that is quite boastful for contributing their own brand to the world. It is basically a small town with a strip of expensive spas along the river. In these spas you can get a massage, whirlpool bath, mud bath or any other odd regenerative beauty treatment. As someone carrying the Y-chromosome, I was pretty much interested in a massage and maybe a little exercise. They have pools on top of the mountains where you can look down on the town while swimming. Hard to beat that for relaxation.
