Tai woke me up at 5.30am Christmas morning eager to get up and open our presents, when he told me the time I rolled over saying it was far too early and to go back to sleep, I drifted in and out of sleep for the next couple of hours with tai nudging me urging me to get up every 20 minutes or so, eventually I gave in and at around 8ish we both got up and began our day…..

We sat down in the lounge and began exchanging gifts, the kittens were loving the wrapping paper which kept them amused, no sooner as each of us had opened each gift tai was putting them to one side and moving onto the next – I began to think he was being a little ungrateful – but it was Christmas so I figured I shouldn't make a fuss!

Within 5 minutes the pile of presents had all been opened and we were left surrounded by a huge pile of wrapping paper! Tai then began looking around patting the wrapping paper and said he was sure there was another gift somewhere and he was going to go and check upstairs, when he came back down a few minutes later he had a small black box in his hand, I figured he must of bought me some earrings or something, when I saw on top of the box it was from youngs jewellers – a lovely antique jewellers in Christchurch – I was excited to see what was in it, when I opened the box there were no earrings just a big sparkly ring – I looked at tai and began to shake, nervously asking what it was and he responded by asking me to be his wife! After double checking if it was a joke or not I threw my arms around him shed a little tear and said of course!

The next couple of hours raced by as we skyped home telling people the news – we were met with gasps, tears and a lot of congratulations; It was a wonderful morning so far. Our friends came over just before lunch and we headed off to the beach for a Christmas day swim, it was lovely – we went to a little cove where the water was shallow, warm and calm and we bobbed around on lilos playing catch and paddling around for the next couple of hours before heading back to ours just in time for the heavens to open and sat down to a Christmas dinner of monkfish, prawns, scallops and salad…oh and the others had numerous other types of meat. With the rain pouring down outside we figured it was a perfect afternoon for some board games, more friends came round and we had a lovely evening eating drinking and being very merry – all the while I couldn’t stop looking at my hand at the perfect ring from my perfect fiancé!
