Yesterday, after an excruciatingly early (4am) and l-o-n-g day of cross-Central American travel, I made it to La Ceiba on the north coast of Honduras, rendezvousing with Tedster at the romantic, in name only, Hotel Gran Paris! As we both downed much deserved Honduran beer, Tedster remarked how crazy it is that we're in Honduras together.  We would never have predicted this reunion location 10 years ago, sitting over pints in our favorite English haunts in Bath.  I mean HONDURAS?  Who goes there?  Well here we were.  Today we ventured up into the jungle covered mountains east of the city for some high intensity river rafting.  It was a blast.  We started by swimming the rapids and jumping off rocks into the river (I lost a water shoe-more on that later).  Then we hopped into rafts and cascaded down the river, through some decent class III and IV rapids.  While surfing a particularly intense rapid, we flipped and spent the next 5 minutes dodging rocks and absorbing hits to our backsides as we tried to collect our belongings floating away down river.  Great fun.  Safe and sound, we returned to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.  Tomorrow we're off to Utila in the Bay Islands off the coast.  It will be a weekend of more relaxation, scuba diving and beach bumming.  After about 2 weeks of pretty hard core travel, save for a few days on Lake Atitlan, I need some down time.  Like Rick Steves says, you need to take a vacation from your vacation.  I'm looking forward to my vacation.

As for lost items, one of my river shoes is the latest victim.  At current count this trip is getting expensive for all the items I need to replace when I get home:

-Nagene water bottle.  Bummer.  I liked it.  I left on the sailboat in Placencia.
-Swimsuit.  Left in Flores.  Luckily my good buddy Evan was nice enough to bring it home.  He's sold it on ebay by now I'm sure.
-Camera battery.  Luckily I have two.
-The tops of my convertible pants/shorts.  Now I have the zip-off bottoms.  That does me very little good.

Happily, for me at least, Lol arrives in a week in a half (yeah!) with a resupply trip.  I might even ask her to stay for a while.  Like maybe for two weeks in Nicaragua/Costa Rica?

So forget money, send gear!  And stat!  Before I lose more!

Until the beach. . .

NOTE:  The map pin is wrong because I can't get the map to work on this computer.  I'm not in Tegucigalpa, but in La Ceiba.  I'll fix it ASAP.  Sorry for the technical difficulties.  Hopefully it doesn't ruin your reading experience.
