We sailed from Maumere on to Riung which is where we decided once again to take a trip to see another traditional mountain village - God we are glutins for punishment!!

The sail was great and enjoyable, an overnighter on the 20th had us arriving 21st.

Our first day was basically exploring the village, getting a few provisions, obtaining fuel, and then just relaxing before we headed off in another bemo bound for another village - and guess what, another early start!

Riung I found really small but nice. It had quaint small houses, its pier stretched right out as the tidal range was fairly big here so loading the fuel was fun. There were only a couple of houses right at the end of the pier which were pretty run down fishing houses. Thankfully there was one shop in town where we bought basic provisions.

Annie and Liam again played "sundowner hosts" as so often they did so we spent a wonderful afternoon relaxing and chatting before returning to our respective boats and getting to sleep before the big tour.

After negotiating with the local tour operators we finally organised our big day at the village. We were also promised on the way some hot springs to refresh us.

Well our bemo was much like any other in Indonesia - completely run down, old with no springs, seating that was the usual ripped decorative pattern, and the compulsory "get out and push uphill" type automobile!

This was a big day but spectacular scenery and the springs were a welcome relief from the bone jarring rattling of the bemo. By the way this bemo had a unique braking system at rest - its called choking the tyres - no hand brake!

I think after the day out we were all glad to see our bunks that night and looking forward to moving on to Labhuanbajo, our next rally stop.
