After breakfast and a bit of souvenir shopping in Berlin we headed off to Potsdam to see the Sanssouci Palace which was built in 1747 for Frederick the Great.  We arrived a bit early for the next tour so we went across the street to a lovely little restaurant called Mövenpick.  We had a nice lunch there and then headed back over for our tour.  As were were leaving the resturaunt, which was a rather nice place I might add, I was rather surprised to see a couple of dogs sleeping at the feet of their owners. Now these were not service dogs, just regular pets. Johanna assured me this is nothing unusual here and dogs are allowed pretty much anywhere. Go figure.

The tour through the palace was quite lovely and I hope the pictures can be viewed ok as I was not allowed to use flash for any of them.  It was hard to believe so much work and design was used in the 1700's.  It was quite elaborate.

After our tour, it was back in the car for a 5 1/2 hour ride back to Nievenheim where we were greeted by Martina, full of smiles, laughter, hugs and food! Lots and lots of food.  Even when you are not hungry you eat just because you don't have the heart to refuse her hospitality.  She is such a joy to be around.  She brought all the food into the living room around the fireplace because she thought it would be warmer in there for us.  Then when we were looking for our suitcases to carry upstairs, we discovered that Rudi had already taken them up. To the third floor where we are staying.  We are getting quite spoiled here.  Then it was off to bed, not sure what tomorrow brings. Johanna has to go to the university to work on a project with her group and we are planning to do some research on renting a car to possibly go south to see some castles on Sunday. Johanna has to work for a couple of days so we are going to entertain ourselves.  It depends on just how long the drive is. If it is going to be too long of a drive, I might just vote to do more sight seeing around this area. I hate to waste precious time sitting in a car. Stay tuned for more! Tamera
