While staying in Sepilok, I took a day trip to the Kinabatangan River Nature Wildlife Reserve about two hours away. This place is a protected rainforest area surrounding the river that is a refuge for all sorts of wildlife fleeing the encroachment of palm oil plantations from all directions. Several species of monkey, Orangutans, numerous birds, pygmy elephants, javan rhino, monitor lizards, Palm civets, crocodiles, etc. etc. etc. call this place home. Many of these species are extremely rare to see, but we did see 4 species of monkey, Palm Civets, monitor lizards, and a few species of Hornbill. No Orangutans, but we did see a couple of their nests high up in the trees. The place is serenely beautiful, and the concentration of wildlife here is simply amazing. Enjoy some photos.
