Where I stayed
Wow, I sure like Macau! I went there with some colleagues a couple years ago for Christmas, and decided I needed to go back and check it out again. For such a tiny place, there is plenty to see. Even though I had been there before, I managed to see almost completely different things and places this time around. My friend Wes and I only had a couple days off so we did the turbo tour of Macau. We visited some of the more ritzy, massive new casinos and sights on the first day, went to an absolutely fabulous performance called The House of Dancing Water, and on the second day we walked around the more historic center of Macau's peninsula. As I said, there are many things to see such as old churches, cobbled streets, narrow winding roads, many relics from the Portuguese days, and massive, luxurious casino/hotels. The thing that trumped it all however was the show "The House of Dancing Water". This thing was amazing! It is a show similar in style to Cirque de Soleil, but almost the entire show takes place, in, on, or around a massive tank of water. Quite an amazing experience. The show had a production budget of 2 billion Hong Kong dollars, so as you can imagine, the tickets were not cheap...but it was well worth the price of admission. If you are ever in Macau, you have to see it. Here is a synopsis of the story:
The story begins in the coast of Coloane, a Fisherman travelling with his boat enjoys his journey. Suddenly, a mysterious energy from the water creates a terrible whirlpool, grabs the fisherman and pulls him to a place and a time of legends...he cannot realize what is happening at this very moment within a lengthy time. He observes, lost and intrigues....when a storm brings a survivor from a shipwreck, a stranger to this magical kingdom. The young, brave stranger encounters and falls in love with a beautiful princess who was thrown into a cage by her evil stepmother, the Dark Queen. Without hesitating, the fisherman decides to help the stranger to fight against the Dark Queen and rescue the princess. With his help, the stranger and the princess defeat the Dark Queen and the fisherman obtains an unexpected reward.
