From what it sounds like, this island will be just what I am looking for: good snorkeling and some monkey filled jungles. I will again have only 2 days there, but again, it is amazing what you can do in two days on a little island.

After the trip: This place is awesome...if you are interested in reptiles at least. I sure am, so I loved it. I swear there must be as many monitor lizards here as there are people! Many of them are over 6 feet long from head to tip of the tail. I got lots of pictures and videos of them too. In addition, the island is crawling with monkeys, and many other types of lizard. Almost the entire island is ringed by beaches, and the entire island is covered by beautiful rainforest. One day we hiked up from the west side of the island, climbed through the jungle covered hills and came out on the east side of the island at another beautiful beach called Juara. It was about a 7 km hike, which isn't very far, but it is a very sweaty 7 km's! On the way, at the top of the mountain, a road cuts through the jungle. At this point one of the most disturbing things I have seen occurred. As we popped out on to this road, we saw a massive lizard basking on the concrete. We moved in closer and got some pictures of this beast. He looked back at us, made eye contact, and just continued to chill out. Moments after we finished taking photos, a jeep came flying over the hill and was coming straight towards us....he literally swerved over to our side of the road (the wrong side of the road for him to be driving on) and ran right over the back of this poor lizard. He almost hit us too....and he appeared to be grinning afterwards. This poor lizard, a huge lizard just left suffering in the road. I won't soon forget the look in it's eyes after he got ran over...he knew he was a goner. I will never be able to look at one of those lizards again without remembering the sound of bones breaking, and the look in it's eyes afterwards.

After that horrific event, we eventually made it down to the other beach, and it was a rewarding sight...and swim. Also went for a snorkeling day trip to a little island called Cat Island. Very successful afternoon as we saw stingrays, a Green Sea Turtle, a Banded Sea Krait (Sea Snake...and venomous!), and plenty of fish.

Pretty much the rest of my time there I spent chasing around monitor lizards...great fun. Look at some pictures.
