Yesterday I took a stroll through a few different areas of town with a couple friends. We started off in SIP, the very modern, wealthy, far away from Mudu side of town. We walked through a nice park with some interesting sculptures, went for lunch at the new'ish mall called "In City", and had a massage at a place called Dragonfly. I have yet to stay awake through a massage at that place! The lights are always dimmed with some water dripping noises in the background, very relaxing. After the massage we went to meet some friends at a hostel called Mingtown Youth Hostel. It is in the city center part of town which is were most of the really old buildings, pagodas, and gardens are located in Suzhou. The street the hostel is on, Ping Jiang Lu, is a very cool street. It is too narrow for cars, and is the surface is all cobbled and runs alongside a canal. All of the buildings are very old here, and the street is full of nice little canal side cafes. My friend Jamie, known to us as Scottish Jamie as we know an English Jamie also, has been having to stay at the hostel for the last week or so as he got the boot from his apartment for being too much of a "party animal". Basically what this amounted too apparently was that he came home too late some times. Anyway, the hostel is quite neat. If I was travelling through Suzhou, I think it would be the place to stay. After hanging out at the hostel a while, e walked towards Guan Qian Jie, which is the main pedestrian only shopping street in the city center. We had some great food at a restaurant called Southern Cross (best chicken chimichanga in town!), then walked down Guan Qian Jie before taking a taxi back home. Pretty nice little Saturday. I took my camera with me because I haven't taken many pictures around Suzhou lately, so here are the pictures.
