Twilight zone moment on Monday: I was asked, seemingly at random, to come to an awards show at Taihu International Conference Center (an 800 million yuan building) and win an award. It is apparent to me now that they wanted people to think I was important, especially after they introduced me as an officer of the Ministry of Education of Canada.....but let me tell you, this place did NOT lack any prestige.....my presence could only have hurt the prestige of this place. What I was expecting to be a little smokey room, low budget award ceremony was in fact a huge budget, academy awards style stage and ceremony complete with beautifully choreographed dance performances and crazy lighting and visual effects. Crazy. I will let the pictures and videos do most of the talking here. Anyway, this was not my typical Monday afternoon, so I thought it was worth posting it here.
