Today we got to go to the Butterfly House in Chesterville, MO. It was so beautiful to see a garden filled with butterflies flying everywhere, eating nectar, and basking in the sun. It was a little annoying when they flew at you and swerved out of the way at the last second... But overall it was a pleasant and peaceful place.

“Butterflies go wherever they please, and please wherever they go.”

Then we went to St. Charles, MO, the town that Lewis and Clark set off from on the Missouri River. There was a small museum with cool dioramas showing their journey, lots of stuffed animals, and a full size model of one of their boats, “Discovery.” The historic downtown was very old. The street was paved with brick, and the buildings looked soooo Colonial. That was cool.

“…set out from St. Charles at three o’clock after getting every matter arranged…” -William Clark, May 21, 1804

Then we went to the Jewel Box Gardens. This, like the Butterfly House, was a large glass building with beautiful plants. They were arranged to be a beautiful display. The outside was also pretty, with ponds and flower beds. It rained a bit today, but it didn’t deter us from our adventures!

“To cultivate a garden is to walk with God.” (dunno if that’s true…)

Next we went to the St. Louis Arch. Dad and I watched a movie about the making of the Arch, and Mom and Ariel went up to the top, riding in a little pod. They said it was cool. The museum under the Arch was very confusing though… definitely not as cool and organized as the Western Migration Museum in NE. Right outside St. Louis we crossed the Mississippi River! I’ve never been East of the Mississippi before. Then we crossed Illinois and Indiana and stopped in Louisville, Kentucky. That’s four states in one day! On the way back we’re doing more stuff in those states, by the way.
