Where I stayed
We went down to the waterfront and had lunch at Solitude, a cozy place churning out solid tropical beach food. We both had mango shakes with ice cream.
Afterward we took a walk down the beach, then returned to our starting point and dropped our blanket. The sun was hot but there was also a perfect breeze drifting across the water. Jason's first beer in India was a big Kingfisher just before sunset on Patnem Beach.
We enjoyed a candlelight dinner at a table on the sand
There were a few dance beats around bedtime that had us donning earplugs again. They fizzled quickly and we had a very restful sleep.
Palm Trees outsourced their breakfast service to Solitude and we were happy to have every meal on the beach. The generous servings with fresh juice and tea were the best way to start the day.
We rented a scooter for the day and drove out to Agonda Beach, another quiet slice of paradise. Inspired by a couple of others, we did some gentle yoga on the sand, then challenged the surf for a cleansing swim.
We drove down to Palolem Beach but it was too busy for our liking so we went back to Agonda in the afternoon. Sylvia perfected her technique of diving into the breaking waves, then took a turn driving the scooter.
A fabulous dinner at Solitude followed. We agreed not to mess with a good thing and topped it off with a unique and delicious dessert called 'Hello to the Queen'. We took advantage of the free wifi right on the sand to catch up with home.
After another idyllic breakfast by the sea we were given fresh chickoo (guava) from the tree at our place. The sand summoned us once more so we willingly gave in. Sylvia went through a few yoga poses, but Jason was too dizzy.
For dinner that night we ordered up half a dozen tandoori masala king prawns, Goan fish curry, pineapple raita and washed it all down with a large Kingfisher. The Solitude boys started a big fire in a hole on the beach to accompany the smaller candlelit pits that created an ideal atmosphere for chilling out in the comfy chairs.
After all of the struggles and little victories, Goa was the place to be near the end of our long journey. The beach scene was just so laid back.
The next morning was stifling hot so we were already sweating as we said goodbye to Patnem Beach, Solitude and Palm Trees Goa.
