After a short rest in our own bed we woke with our next leg on our minds. We bicycled uptown to the office that India had outsourced its visa services to and signed in among a sea of other applicants.  The friendly Caucasian security guard told us the wait would be long so we breakfasted at the nearby Tim Horton's, which was also packed with travellers aspiring to one day hold an Indian visa.

About an hour and a half later we went through pre-screening and were told that our expected turnaround time was tight.  Another half hour elapsed and our number came up.  We proceeded to the counter and were told that it would not be possible to process our visas in time so our flight plans would have to be changed, unless we could get through Mumbai and on to Kathmandu without needing a visa.  Given the airline and terminal changes involved, we decided that the latter would be too risky to attempt, but we didn't give up.

The next morning Jason checked in at work while Sylvia pleaded our case to the Indian Consulate.  Everything seemed to be in order for a January return to the hospital, but India was still putting up roadblocks, leaving us one last chance to keep our scheduled flight.

In the late morning we took the train part way and celebrated the four fall Volling family birthdays in Cobourg.  Nephew Quinton quarterbacked his high school football team to another victory.

Jason rose early for Friday golf at Eagle's Nest with his friend Jason.  It was a stunning day with warm sun and vibrant autumn colours.  The Burger's Priest was the ideal place to pick up a post-round lunch to eat by the beach.

Sylvia dealt with some condo maintenance issues and did some travel research.  She had dinner with her friend Trudy while Jason got together with his friends at Jill's place.

Saturday was spent running errands and gearing up for the last leg.  We went in to work to use the wifi, the first of three worthwhile visits in three days.  Newlyweds Al and Po came downtown for dinner but Khao San Road had no tables available for hours so we got takeout instead.  Even that took over an hour so Al and Jason chatted over a beer on a bench outside.

On Sunday Sylvia met up with Roshini and Andrea at Wanda's Pie In The Sky while Jason catalogued our photos by the thousands.

With a lot more waiting, a little begging and a hefty extra fee, our emergency transit visa was granted on Monday.  Sylvia visited Ivy and met her nine month old boy James while Jason made plans to cook up a delicious steak dinner, likely our last for a long time.

Our departure day began with some last minute packing and cleaning.  We had Chinese takeout for lunch, then headed for the airport to start the third and final leg of our 2012 adventure.
