We decided to nom based on the recommendation of the Lonely Planet: Thailand's Beaches and Islands book that we have been consistently referencing.
The nom place in question is called "Catch", which is the TRENDY beachside restaurant for the Twin Palms (a super fancy
shmancy hotel in Hat Surin that is a minimum of 500$ USD/night).
Uhmmm
so 2000BHT got us three shrimp, fancy looking satay chicken, conical rice, and
a bowl of curry sauce (with a crab shell in it). We were not pleased.
The menu was one of those fancy five-star looking menus with no
traditional dishes (aside from satay chicken, I guess, and pad thai).
Not worth it. The place looks more like the kind of joint you go to if you wanna be a ritzy european sipping a glass of wine. Not for food. Probably just for booze.
MUCH better place to eat on the Hat Surin restaurant strand with the same level of hip/chic ambience is Taste. Better food for your money, and you don't lose any of the hipster factor.

Thai Food
Hi fellow travelers! Thanks for the comment on my blog. Yes, that totally sounds like a tourist rip-off. :(
The good thing is that there's always time for an amazing 150 baht meal in this place! Man, I'm going to miss the amazing rice and noodle dishes when I have to give them up for Cocoa Puffs and Campbells again. Ha ha.
Happy trails!
