I reluctantly was drug out of Pucon. Anyone visiting Chile should go there. It is very nice. And the volcano alarms are tested everyday for the enjoyment of all! We did not ascend the volcano due to rain and high winds...oh well. Did not look easy. Instead we had good coffee at an Arabian resturaunt. We is Eunice and a nice Irish girl. The afternoon was spent in pleasent conversation. I am not sure if the store owner minded that we bought two sandwiches and three coffees and stayed for 4 hours but a helpful Chilean woman made sure Eunice took all her belongings with her.
Later that after noon Eunice and I took a really uncomfortable bus to Valdivia. Valdivia is advertised in the Lonely Planet as the most beautiful city in Chile... I guess I did not see it. There were some really impressive sealions at the fish market and we took a barge cruise around the area. The cuise was a bargin at 9000 pesos, it included lunch a snack, and very comprehensive explinations of the facinating bogs and trees we were passing. We did get to see some sort of fort, again a wonderful talk about the history of the for. I just wish I understood anything they were saying.
Eunice had a brief but gut wrenching moment after she drop kicked her camera across the pavement just outside one of the forts. After snapping it back together again and shaking, it still did not seem to work. We bent all of our collective engineering wisdom together and tried changing the batteries...donīt laugh it worked.
While Valdiva did not really live up to our expectations for prettiest town in Chile we did discover a Tapas bar that had Sangria!!! We drank a pitch both nights :) The wine really is good here. Makes up for being served hotdogs as "italian sausages"... well almost.
Am in Puerto Montt now. I get on a boat and sail to the ends of the earth tomorrow. Very exciting. Hope all is well back in the States.
