We spent two days at Chitwan. Our hotel was just on the boundary of the park. There was a river to the side where crocs sunbathed in the day on the bank. The first day we went on an elephant ride. There was 4 of us on each elephant in a basket. It wasn't the most comfy thing! When the elephant walked you tipped from side to side. We walked down to the river and into the park. We were out for 2 1/2 hours and got to see the sunset. We didn't see any tigers or rhino but we saw a lot of birds, crocs, monkeys and deer. The elephants cover the smell of people so the deer don't run away. They looked right at us then carried on eating. At the end the elephants mahoot took us up a nearly vertical path. We couldn't believe we got up there.
The next day we did loads. We had a walk, elephant briefing, canoe ride, jeep safari and a slide show of the park. The walk was before breakfast, when it was still really cold and foggy. As we were walking with our guide he had a call and we changed direction. We came across the mahout's with there elephants. They were surrounding a rhino. It was huge. We could get quite close as we had the elephants around us. He looked straight at us a few times but if he had charged the elephants would have blocked his way. He seemed quite relaxed as he lay ed down to had a sleep so we could get even closer. After the rhino we headed back
We had a talk at the elephant stables about elephants which was actually quite interesting. They only keep female elephants but apparently there was wild elephants around thats was why there was 2 babies.
After lunch we went in the canoe then in the jeep. That was fun. We had to stand up in the back the whole time. We saw deer, monkeys, crocs, a stork, more birds and also another rhino. she was just standing at the side of the road when we came whizzing round the corner. Apparently they do charge at jeeps so our driver emergency braked. We also stopped at a croc farm that was breeding them. They didn't do much though, they were all asleep!
Chitwan was great but I wished wed seen a tiger or bear.
