We went back to Hikkaduwa as we knew a cheaper place to stay there.
We didn't do much but we went to the turtle hatchery. We were lucky as some had hatched that day so the man dug them up and we got to put them into the tank where they stay till they release them. Some of the turtles are born blind so they cannot release them so they keep them there. We saw three blind turtles and one with a deformed shell. They also had turtles that fishermen had brought to the hatchery after being caught in there nets. They would release those ones too.
Our favorite was the albino turtle who is about 6 years old. They are very rare as they are usually eaten as babies as they have no camouflage. This one will never be released. They have had her from before the tsunami and when it hit the guy grabbed her and another turtle and ran. All the rest were lost.
