An early start in Paris saw us onto the train and with minimum fuss we crossed France on the 300kph TGV train. crossing the border we changed trains at Basel and set off into the mountains. Even though it was a bit cloudy the views were excellent and a huge change from the urban landscapes of Paris. At Grindlewad, we disembarked and had our first view of the lower slopes of the Eiger. during the evening we wandered through Grindlewald and watched oompah bands, line dancers and enjoyed the smell of smelly Raclette cheese as Grindlewald was having it's
Wednesday knees up. The late evening sun even managed to pierce the cloud and give us a view of the summit of the Eiger. we wended our way back to the hostel to the pleasant sound of Swiss cow bells.

Paris to Grindelwald
We woke up at about 6:30 to take the train to Grindelwald. After the hostel made a special effort for us and gave us our breakfast early, we took the metro to the Gare de L'est, where we boarded the train. Being a TGV train, it was rather fast although it seemed to slow to really kick off and slowed down at every turn although the way it leaned on the corners was cool. We got off at Basel whilst waiting for our train to Interlaken. When we reached Interlaken we had a mere 8 minutes to transfer to the train to Grindelwald. From the train station to the hostel, there was a nasty hill we had to climb. The day was rather uneventful from there(actually it would be fair to say the whole day was uneventful in general) although Grindelwald was having a bit of a street party in the evening so we saw people in traditional costume and playing local music.
