I am not sure where I left this tale.

We landed in Bangkok, after 11pm on Friday night.

We started the Fourth of July, at midnight, when we left Bangkok in a van to travel to Ubon Ratchathani. On the Goggle map, it is a little more than 9 hours away. It took us until almost 2pm to get here. About 1:30 am we stopped at a roadside restaurant (for an hour or so) and ate some Thai food, I have no idea what we had, some things I liked better than others. Even though I had not slept since we left, Thursday morning, I could not sleep... there was a lot of laughing and they decided to watch a comedy DVD.

We watched the sun rise. These are the things I saw... rice paddies outlined by grass-topped dirt, water buffalo, rubber trees, banana trees, water lillies and lotus, orchids, temples, monks, thatched roofs, road side markets and restaurants, corregated tin roofs, brightly painted vans and busses, trucks, and motorbikes... there were very few cars.

When we got to Ubon, I immediately went to bed, and slept until 2am, when Elise and I got up for a snack of Supa's brownies. We went back to bed, and slept until 6am.

Today is July 5. Supa's family has a very humble home. The entrance room is about 12'x25', with a tile floor. It opens onto the sidewalk, there is no door, so the entire end of the room is open. At night they close the gate and lock it. There are two bedrooms off this room, the doors are glass, and they are air conditioned. The larger room is our bedroom, the smaller one is for one of Supa's sisters and her husband. At the end of the room are the stairs to the second floor. Behind the big room is the eating area and bathroom. Beside the long room is the car area and kitchen, an eating area, and a garden. There is a tin roof over that area, (it extends the length of the house), and past that is the court yard, also running the length of the property. There is a rooster in a cage out there. I wondered why anyone would have a rooster, and no chickens... he is a cock fighter. Upstairs, there is a large room, three smaller rooms, and another bathroom.

We watched the monks walk in the street, so that people could give them food. We visited the temple in the next block, bought some salapow, and walked to the river and back. I had a Thai massage, and went to the salon to have my hair washed. Soon we will eat dinner, visit, and go to bed.
