We were going to spend 2 days in Colombo, the first day - visit to a very unique temple dedicated to Vibhishan - Ravan's brother (Ramayan epic). It is believed that the temple site is the place where Vibhishan was coronated by Shri Ram after his victory over Ravan. The temple is also believed to be the place where Lord Buddha in the 5th century BCE arrived in Sri Lanka
to preach the Dhamma and the throne on which he sat is the relic that is now housed in the temple. The temple itself is very spacious and built out of light yellow sandstone. The sculptures are intricate and very beautiful. Amid the yellow tinged temple stands a white washed stupa.

The second half was reserved for SHOPPING!!
Shopping time was spent in 2 of the most known departmental stores - Odel and House of Fashion. Odel is more or less like any other departmental stores with not much difference between the prices. However House of Fashion is a treat for men- quite unusual but branded shirts and trousers are available at almost half price. The only glitch being you cannot try the garments. However if you know the right size, its a real bargain.
We shifted from Grand Oriental to Holiday Inn which is a stones throw from the much famed Galle Face Green which is a promenade- ribbon strip of land between Galle Road and the Indian Ocean. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening watching the kites (which is a very popular pasttimes) competing in the now orange-blue skies. The kites are made on cloth unlike paper ones and are of very beautiful colors and shapes.
